Stay Local This Summer

Since opening in May 2019 we have been quite surprised at just how local some of our guests have been, many from our local town of Dunfermline which is only two or so miles from Craigduckie.

You may think why would you holiday on your doorstep? (I did!) but actually having spoken to our guests and heard their reasoning I think I’m converted.

We’ve all been there - writing lists, packing the car with everything bar the kitchen sink, stressing about forgetting your phone charger or the kids comforter. But, if your not going far there is no stress - if you have forgotten it you can just pop down the road and pick it up.

When will we be there? How long to go? The long agonising journeys, stuck in ques of traffic and the impairment passengers who just want to be there now (and that just my husband). The beauty of staying locally means the kids are there before they even ask how long it will take and haven’t even looked up from their tablets.  Result - everyone arrives calm and in good humour ready to spend quality time together and embrace new adventures.

'we've lived in Dunfermline for 15 years and never knew this place existed' commented a recent guest, whilst another explained 'being close to home means we can nip back to feed the cat!'.

We are a whole mile, up a dead end track, from the main road so once you are here you really do feel far away with a complete change of scenery. The Shepherds Huts are surrounded by green fields and enjoy views views over Loch Fitty and the surrounding countryside and from the top of the farm you can see over the Forth to the Pentland Hills to the south.  We are very lucky to be close to both Edinburgh and Glasgow (under an hours drive to each).

if your quiet there is so much to see in the fields surrounding the shepherds huts from dear to ducks and hares to Herrons - keep your eyes peeled.

From Craigduckie you can walk to the St Ninians Land art, explore the local ponds, search for cones in the woods or have a picnic in one of the fields.  So many people don't leave the farm once they arrive.

We encourage all of our guests to come on a tour of the farm, meet the animals and get involved. Regardless of age everyone loves to sit in the tractor!

So, how far do you have to go to get away? not far it seems! Wherever you are from we can’t wait to welcome you to Craigduckie!
